Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently detained in Adiala Jail, has exercised his voting right through a postal ballot.
According to reports, Imran Khan, alongside other prominent political figures, opted for postal voting from Adiala Jail.
Joining Imran Khan in postal voting were former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rashid, and former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry.
However, Bushra Bibi was unable to partake in the voting process as she was convicted and arrested after the conclusion of the postal voting period.
In Punjab’s correctional facilities, a total of 1,100 inmates cast their votes through postal ballots out of more than 65,000 prisoners across 43 jails.
A spokesperson for the Prisons Department confirmed the receipt of 1,500 postal ballots from the Election Commission, with the remaining ballots returned. The voting process in prisons was carried out confidentially and in compliance with established procedures, with votes dispatched to the Election Commission via mail.
It’s noteworthy that the Election Commission had instructed the Inspector General of Prisons Punjab to facilitate prisoners in exercising their voting rights.
