KARACHI: The Aga Khan University celebrated a momentous convocation, witnessing over 730 graduates across four countries, honored in ceremonies attended by esteemed dignitaries including Princess Zahra Aga Khan. The event, both in-person and online, drew the support of the University’s global community.
Speaking in Nairobi on behalf of AKU’s founder, His Highness the Aga Khan, Princess Zahra emphasized the graduates’ role in facing challenges and embracing opportunities for community service and global harmony.
In Pakistan, 391 graduates, predominantly women, received degrees in nursing, medicine, and education. Sabina Khatri, Founder of Kiran Foundation, Karachi, commended the graduates, foreseeing their potential to surpass existing achievements.
AKU marked its 40th anniversary in 2023 with significant milestones, including the launch of new academic programs and the commencement of construction on a new campus in Uganda, showcasing the institution’s commitment to education and healthcare advancement.
President Sulaiman Shahabuddin hailed the convocation as a pinnacle moment for the graduates, outlining AKU’s ambitious plans for the future, encompassing new degree programs, research initiatives, and expanded healthcare services.
Notable recognitions included Zehra Amanullah receiving the Outstanding Graduate Award from the School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Alizah Pervaiz Hashmi being awarded the prestigious Gold Medal from the Medical College.
Reflecting on AKU’s remarkable journey, President Shahabuddin credited His Highness the Aga Khan for his unwavering vision, guiding the institution towards innovation, quality, and impactful contributions to society.
