ISLAMABAD: The opposition senators on Tuesday demanded the removal and arrest of the Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja for conducting unfair and rigged general elections in the country.
National Party Senator Tahir Bizenjo of the National Party has demanded the immediate arrest of the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan during a Senate session on Tuesday.
Expressing concerns over alleged electoral malpractices, Senator Bizenjo highlighted instances of legitimate public representatives being defeated in Balochistan, with individuals tied to drug trafficking and land grabbing securing seats in the assembly.
He questioned the judiciary’s authority to strip Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of its electoral symbol, raising doubts about the stability of the nation amid rigged elections.
Demanding accountability, Senator Bizenjo insisted on the arrest and prosecution of the Chief Election Commissioner for violating constitutional principles, attributing these actions to an attempt to divert attention from the issue of missing persons.
In a similar vein, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed echoed calls for the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation, citing the Election Commission’s failure to ensure transparent elections.
Accusing the Election Commission of committing treason, Senator Ahmed urged for an apology to the people and called for legal action against the Chief Election Commissioner.
Furthermore, Senator Ahmed expressed concerns over the sudden suspension of the social media platform X in Pakistan, describing the situation as suspicious and highlighting its adverse impact on education and economy.
He called for the establishment of an empowered judicial commission, under the supervision of the Supreme Court, to investigate irregularities related to Form-45.
