PESHAWAR: In a bid to control the worsening traffic congestion on the city’s busy highways, the Peshawar Traffic Police have introduced the use of modern technology, including drone cameras, to monitor traffic patterns and identify the causes of bottlenecks.
This is the first time in the city that drone surveillance is being used to track traffic flow and pinpoint areas of congestion. The drone footage will help traffic authorities analyze real-time data, enabling them to identify the causes of traffic jams and assess conditions on the city’s main highways and alternate routes.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Peshawar, Saud Khan, confirmed the initiative of using modern technology to control traffic, saying that monitoring of busy highways with drones has officially begun.
CTO Saud Khan personally inspected the process, stating that the drones will be crucial in instantly identifying the causes of traffic disruptions.
He emphasised that this modern method would help maintain smoother traffic flow on major roads.
“The introduction of drone surveillance is a significant step in line with modern requirements for traffic management,” said Saud. “The drones not only save time but also reduce fuel consumption, as traffic police will no longer need to patrol these areas physically.”
Further elaborating, the CTO stated, ”Since the drone-based technology has been put in place, the traffic warden’s duties shall not include regular traditional patrolling.
The aerial survey will be carried out at different times of the day for traffic condition assessment.” All these observations are to give way to an informed traffic management system. Drone cameras will also help rule violators identify and improve enforcement.
Unfortunately, while this kind of technological advancement is welcomed and received by the police department, some citizens still frown on these advancements like every other thing.
