ORAKZAI: At least three coal miners tragically lost their lives due to the accumulation of toxic gas in a coal mine in Torawarai, Orakzai district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to details, the victims belonged to the same village and have been identified as Rahimullah, son of Sher Rehman; Liaqat Ali, son of Bacha Khan; and Sherzada, son of Sher Muhammad, all residents of Daulat Kallay, Shangla.
The bodies were successfully recovered from the mine and, following the funeral rites were sent to their native village, Daulat Kallay in Alpuri Tehsil, Shangla, where they will be laid to rest later today.
This incident has once again shaken the community in Shangla, which has been grappling with frequent mining accidents.
Just yesterday, two miners lost their lives in Swat’s emerald mines due to a rockfall, and earlier this month, another miner died in a similar incident in a coal mine. This brings the total death toll of miners from Shangla to six in a single month, highlighting the perilous conditions faced by workers in this region.
Reports indicate that mining operations in Torawarai, Orakzai Agency, are in a severely neglected state. The absence of oxygen systems and essential safety measures makes mining a constant risk to workers’ lives.
