ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi indicted the ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan in the May 9, 2023, General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case.
Khan, who has been behind bars for more than a year, has denied the charges levelled against him.
Opposition leader in National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan and former Punjab Law minister Raja Bashara were also indicted in the case following which they were arrested outside the Adiala Jail.
Over 143 individuals, including Khan, have been named as accused in the case, while 23, including Zulfiqar Bukhari and Shahbaz Gill, are listed as fugitives.
Yesterday, anti-terrorism court (ATC) had rejected the acquittal plea filed by Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Omar Ayub Khan in the GHQ attack case.
On May 9, 2023, thousands of PTI workers took to the streets across major cities in Pakistan following the arrest of Imran Khan by the anti-corruption watchdog in connection with a 190-million-pound corruption case.
During the protests, PTI supporters and leaders were accused of attacking key military and government installations, including the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, the PAF Air Base in Mianwali, and the Radio Pakistan office in Peshawar.
In the aftermath of the violent riots, hundreds of PTI workers and senior leaders were arrested, and cases were filed against party figures such as Imran Khan and Omar Ayub Khan.
