QUETTA: A Pakistani man appeared in court Thursday for allegedly killing his 15-year-old daughter in an “honor killing,” police said. The girl, born in the US, was shot after she refused to stop posting videos on TikTok.
Police arrested the father on Wednesday. He had recently moved his family from the US to Pakistan. The shooting took place on Tuesday in Quetta, Balochistan’s capital.
Initially, the father claimed an unidentified gunman killed his daughter. But during questioning, he confessed, police official Babar Baloch said. Police also arrested his brother-in-law for involvement in the crime. Both men opposed the girl’s TikTok videos, calling them “objectionable.”
A judge granted police 10 days to keep the suspects in custody for investigation.
Honor killings are common in Pakistan. Families often kill women who defy traditions, make independent choices, or marry without consent.
