Afghanistan has finalized its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA this June, with Rashid Khan slated to lead the team.
Compared to the previous edition in 2022, Afghanistan has introduced some fresh faces to the squad, including Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad.
Interestingly, Hashmatullah Shahidi, who captained Afghanistan in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, is notably absent from the squad, with his last T20I appearance dating back to 2022.
One of the exciting additions is young talent Nangyal Kharoti, who showcased his skills during his international debut against Ireland in March, claiming five wickets in three matches with an impressive economy rate of 5.90.
Another promising youngster securing a spot is wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Ishaq, who previously represented Afghanistan in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cups in 2020 and 2022.
Rashid Khan will spearhead the spin department, complemented by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti, and veteran Mohammad Nabi.
The fast-bowling lineup features the retained talents of Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooqi.
